When I was in the Army, I got a really REALLY excellent upper-respiratory infection. The doctor told me that if I didn't quit smoking, I was going to die.

I said, "Well - everyone has to die sometime!"

He said, "Yeah - but I mean NOW!"

When I got out of the hospital, I approached one of the enlisted men that ... well ... frankly ... hated my guts and made him an offer that made him smile. I told him that, any time he caught me smoking, he could beat the CRAP out of me.

Nothing in the crotch, nothing that showed, and nothing that made me unable to work. Other than that, he had his choice of technique and target.

... AND I'd pay him $50 per butt-whupping.

He was most extraordinarily conscientious!

It cost $150 to quit smoking.
