Post subject: Cowboy rules ...
Hi Well, I can't get to sleep tonight. Back and hip are keeping me awake, so I might as well make the rest of YOU miserable, too. Cowboy Rules in cooking are:
This dates from the days when a chuck-wagon cook was a rare thing, and so the cooking, cleaning and wagon-tongue-pointing duties (one of the most important chuck-wagoneer's jobs was to point the wagon tongue at the north star every night before turning in, so people would know in which direction to move cattle the next day) fell to one of the regular hands. One time, during an arduous drive, a young cow puncher had done just about as much cooking as he could stand, so, that whole day, he gathered up ripe, dry cowflops as he traveled along. That evening, he made some crust coffins, filled them with cowflops, sugar, cinnamon and dotted them with butter, closed them and baked them. After the evening meal, he sliced the other hands each a big slice of the pie. The first one to taste his spat it out and yelled, "That's COW-CRAP PIE!" Then, suddenly realizing what he'd done, he added, " ... bu ... but it's GOOD ... cow-crap pie!!" |
